The Softening
Retreat Monferrato, 1 Via panengo Piemonte, 14026 Italy
15.09.2026 – 20.09.2026
Slow Down. Soften. Savor.
Join your host Sydney in the rolling hills of Monferrato this September for five slow, spacious days of yoga, nourishing meals, immersing in Italian culture, and softening into autumn. Villa Monastero will be our home – a remodeled historic Italian monastery surrounded by vineyards and golden September light.
Together we’ll soften into stillness and savor the richness of late summer in Italy.
Your retreat includes daily yoga practices, homemade meals, a cooking class, a wine tasting, and time to wander the villa’s grounds or simply rest. Roundtrip airport transfers are included for ease of travel.
A space for you to arrive, not as the one leading, but as the one being held.
A space to soften into your own practice and rekindle your inspiration as a teacher.
This retreat is designed for yoga teachers who have completed a 200-hour RYT (or more) and are craving time to simply be a student again. Each day offers both grounding and expansion through vinyasa and restorative practices, alongside intentional workshops that count toward your continuing education credits.
Our classes and discussions are crafted to nurture your evolution as both teacher and practitioner. They’ll weave together self-study, skill-building, and rest.
It’s more than just training. It’s more than a retreat.
It’s a return to yourself, your voice, and the heart of why you teach.
We’ll explore:
- The art of cueing with clarity and confidence
- Creative and embodied class theming that honors Yoga’s roots
- Discovering and refining your authentic teaching voice
Meet Your Host: Sydney Clemens McCowan
“I’m Sydney (she/her), a yoga & pilates teacher based in Washburn, Wisconsin. My teaching blends vinyasa, intuitive movement, and somatic practices, always with the intention of helping students reconnect with their own bodies.

Power Vinyasa
A strong and energizing Asana sequence that will wake up your whole body. Expect to sweat a little, breathe a lot, and feel both challenged and supported. We’ll move with intention to motivating playlists, building heat and strength, while also leaving plenty of space for laughter, play, and curiosity along the way. You’ll step off your mat feeling alive, grounded, and ready to explore the rest of the day.
Gentle Flow Yoga
Slow, spacious, and nourishing. This class is all about moving with ease, linking breath and movement in a way that feels natural. We’ll stretch, soften, and find flow without rush. Sydney will lovingly guide you to bring your awareness back to your own body and sensations. Class always ends with a long, delicious Savasana.
Cueing and Theming Workshops
Refine your language and rediscover the art of guiding classes with authenticity. In these workshops, Sydney will guide you through practical tools for cueing with clarity and refining the language you use in a yoga class. Explore how your words shape the energy of a class, how to weave meaningful themes that feel genuine, and how to use language as an invitation for students to tune inward. These workshops blend discussion, reflection, and embodied practice.
Yin Yoga
Slow down, sink in, and soften. Yin invites you to hold postures for 3 – 10 minutes at a time, allowing your muscles to relax and your deeper tissues to gently open. It’s a practice of stillness and sweet surrender. I’ll guide you through with warmth and encouragement, so you can let your body unfurl while feeling supported.
Yoga Nidra & Restorative Yoga
This is the ultimate reset. We’ll melt into supportive, restful poses with plenty of props, and then settle into Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation sometimes called “yogic sleep.” It’s deeply soothing for the nervous system and leaves you feeling rested as if you’ve had the best nap of your life.
Who is this retreat for?
This retreat is designed for yoga teachers who are ready to soften back into being a student. It’s for those seeking space to nourish their own practice while refining the art of teaching through embodied experience. Whether you’re craving inspiration, community, or simply time to breathe and learn, this retreat offers a supportive environment to grow both personally and professionally.
Do I need to have experience practicing yoga?
All yoga and movement classes will be inclusive and provide options for intuitive movement. No yoga experience is necessary, just a willingness to slow down and show up as you are. All yoga classes are optional.
